Just Fly It

It has been 2 years since the incorporation of Just Fly It (JFI). This blog is launched on this very date too to commemorate the launch of the control line aeromodelling club in 2010. And the founder, me, has decided it's also time to reveal the story of JFI's origin.

I started learning control line when I was still a student in Cedar Girls Secondary School. In junior college, I faced some setbacks, my interest for control line shook and gave up the hobby for a few months to focus on my A levels. Yet absence of flying in my life only made time crawl even more slowly.  Being a child of weak faith, I asked God if I was fated to fly again.

Inspirations from a dream I could hardly recall led me to surf the net in the midst of my preparations for the exams, and a pop-up window gave me the thought of opening a private control line club to offer lessons to interested people of all ages. Due to the exams though, I brushed the thought aside. As I was out on each interview i went for a part time job after the A levels, I found more resources  that would be beneficial for the running of the club. And all these seemed to me a mere coincidence. At least until that very day.

I had put together a simple proposal, outlining the needs of the club and the available resources i could make do with. All preparation seemed to be fine, but something still felt missing, probably the lack of courage or maybe just a lack of purpose. That day wasn't the best of days, especially with a cracked LCD screen on my phone. I was walking into a grass field alone when I started to question God once again if all that I had done was part of his plan.. was flying something he wants me to continue?

I remembered very clearly, that when I first entered the grass field, the sky was totally clear, no clouds, just that constant blue. And as I questioned, this cloud appeared. Not sure if it looks prominent in the picture, but it was hard not to believe his sign when i saw the letter 'F' so distinctively riding on the wave of clouds. Pushing my luck further, i challenged him to confirm my belief if i will be able to capture this sight with my broken phone. Waving the black-screened phone in the air, i took a picture of it. Soon after i sent my phone for repair, this was the photo i retrieved, and i believed.

It marked the day I set myself to put in my soul into this club. Ever since that day, each progress we made was a miracle. Every problem soon found its own solutions, and more mentors joined in along the way, offering their help and experience. Most importantly we are very blessed with the weather we have got. It rains and shines always at the perfect moment. Through the many flight sessions, he ascertained my passion for flying.

To each its own faith. No religious thoughts imposed, just a personal story I thought I would like to share. And at least, I feel that I should give God the most credit for all the things he has done for the club and me.

Happy birthday JFI! and hope that there will be many more years to come.

Just Fly It's first BBQ session

JFI organised our first BBQ session at Mr Ling's Condo, Bayshore Park. On Saturday morning, I was worried the turn-up would be poor as it's still Chinese New Year visiting period and I did not receive much response. Then suddenly in the afternoon, replies started coming in and for a moment I was afraid we will not have enough food to eat.

Fortunately everyone brought more than enough... We end up eating too much. Hahs, so the young ones are having a fun time BBQ-ing. Where did all the mentors go?

Oh there they are! Boy, they sure are having a fun time catching up with each other.

And finally it's Lou Hey time. It is a Chinese tradition to have YuSheng during this festive season. The different ingredients have symbolic meanings for good luck and health. For me, it is an activity that bonds families closer because you have to do it together.

It was truly a fun gathering night, chatting about everything and anything, aeromodelling and non aeromodelling stuff. I believe that this session has brought us closer together, enjoying the night scenery together, eating burnt chicken wings (oops) and fresh seafood, and laughing our heads off each other's stories.

Thank you Mr Ling for hosting the BBQ, and everyone else who turned up and brought all the delicious food to accompany us through the night. We must have another session again! This time perhaps in the west side of Singapore.
